Anredera cordifolia

A vigorous tuberous rooted climber, which uses its leaf stalks to climb. Many scented white flowers in three-inch long racemes are carried in Summer/late Summer. Although hardy in the South of England I find it best started into early growth in a pot in a greenhouse, this early start means flowering starts earlier. Anredera cordifolia is sometimes listed under its older name Boussingaultia baselloides and often referred to as "Sweet Mignonette" The scent is of Almonds. Requires full light and protection from cold winds, in warmer counties it will be evergreen, it will survive temperatures down to -6c provided the ground does not freeze. Anredera cordifolia is a Madeiran endemic and get to smell it over the whole island in the autumn even if you dont often spot it!
